St Anton has come a long way since the days of spontaneous ski bum parties on the town hall steps and inexpensive lunches at the station buffet. Due to the train station’s relocation away from the resort’s center, the entire resort is now more accessible to the slopes.

St Anton is one of the most popular ski resorts in Austria. The town has a notable history, and the Arlberg ski region claims to be the birthplace of modern skiing. In 1901, the Alps’ first ski club was founded here. St Anton is located on the Tyrolean side of the Arlberg pass that divides Tyrol from Vorarlberg. The Arlberg tunnel, which runs beneath the surrounding mountain ranges, provides year-round access in both directions.

Two other ski resorts are concealed behind the winter snows along the ancient Arlberg route. One is the private high-altitude hamlet of St Christoph, which sits immediately before the Arlberg pass and features a ski training center and first-class hotels. The modest community of Stuben, located at the base of the opposite side of the pass, features attractive hotels and guest rooms and is the birthplace of well-known local skier Hannes Schneider.

All three are connected through ski routes, lifts, and an extensive ski transport system. The Arlberg pass also includes the resorts of Lech and Zürs (in addition to those covered by the Flexen pass).
