BRIEF HISTORY – 2020 PHENOM 300E

EMBRAER | EMB-505 | 2020 PHENOM 300E (2020-PRESENT)
Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer Executive Jets made its debut into business jets with its Phenom 100, Very Light Jet. As they moved through the production process they received undeniable amounts of feedback clambering for a larger version of their 100 model. They created the Phenom 300 and it had its first flight in 2008 and earned FAA Type Certification as the Embraer EMB-505 in early December 2009 and shortly after on the 29th of December 2009 the first Phenom 300 was delivered Executive Flight Services Headquartered in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil. With 60 units delivered in 2013, the Phenom 300 became the most delivered business jet. Following feedback from their valued customers, in 2018, Embraer delivered its updated version of the 300 model, the Phenom 300E, with a redesigned interior as well as upgrading the avionics to the Garmin-G3000-based Prodigy Touch.Shortly after that, in 2020, Embraer announced a new version of the 300E series focusing on performance, safety, and comfort to ensure this aircraft remains a contender for best-in-class performance and maximum overall customer satisfaction.

CABIN COMFORTS – PHENOM 300E
One of the biggest complaints in the 300 series was that windows, while large, were extremely difficult to operate, now the 300E features window-shade technology pioneered during the design process for other aircraft it has manufactured. With the addition of a handle at the bottom of the window, passengers can now raise and lower the blinds with just two fingers. The 300E cleverly features 12 inch-deep drawers hidden behind the seats that are ideal for snacks, chargers, or even a smaller, 9.7-inch-screen iPad. When maneuvering through the cabin, passengers will notice the headroom is more spacious, outside of where the video screens are. Thanks to the complete redesign, Embraer created a new dome design which conceals most of the standard lighting and air vents. Cabin lighting sources have evolved into low-cost, easy-to-repair LED fixtures. The overall feel and openness of the redesigned cabin is in part, thanks to the integration of its headrests into the tops of the chairs. This opens up the view from the rear of the aircraft, making the cabin appear more open with an unobstructed view.

POWER AND PERFORMANCE – PHENOM 300E
The 2020 Phenom 300E is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW535E1 engines, rear-mounted, each producing 3,478 lbf of thrust (6,956 lbf total), totaling an additional 236 lbf of thrust than its predecessor.  Quicker than ever before, the Pratt & Whitney engines are capable of rocketing the aircraft to a maximum operating altitude of 45,000 feet and up to 2,010 nautical miles at a maximum cruise speed of 464 knots. The increase in power was accomplished with a software update to the engines’ Full Authority Digital Electronic Engine Controls (FADEC), taking advantage of some built-in power margin. The Phenom 300E’s aerodynamics and PW535E1 engines enable it to take off in just 3,209 feet and land in 2,212 feet. These upgrades also increase its hot-and-high performance (hot temperatures and high altitudes).  Thanks to all the updates and automation, the Phenom 300E remains certified for single pilot operations. Due to some feedback about noise levels inside the cabin, Embraer installed new thermal-acoustic insulation to reduce the high-pitch tone of the engines during ascent by reducing the blade-passing frequency experienced in the cabin. Additionally, three check valves were redesigned to prevent metallic flapping sounds during descent and final approach. A new muffler installed in the air-conditioning system diminishes any noise from the condenser fan that was previously audible; it also quiets the system when running on the ground.

FLIGHT DECK – PHENOM 300E – UPGRADES GALORE
Pilots will also appreciate the avionics capabilities of the new Garmin 3000-based Prodigy Touch Flight Deck. This incorporates upgraded avionics display technology with significantly quicker processors, increased resolution, and enhanced map-panning capabilities. The new displays and software load allow the pilots to add graphical weight and balance, takeoff and landing data, performance calculations, and autopilot-coupled go-arounds, as well as standard features on the 300, such as ADS-B Out/In.Embraer equipped the aircraft with a standard Stabilized Approach System and an optional Runway Overrun and Awareness Alerting System, or ROAAS, to assist pilots in avoiding landing hazards. ROAAS was developed to mitigate the chance of a runway overrun during landing, addressing one of the most critical challenges in business aviation safety. ROAAS calculates and updates the pilot, in real time, the runway distance on approaches and landings; it compensates for deviations which might lead to an overrun; and it instructs the pilot to do a go-around or to apply maximum braking force once they land. ROAAS’s warnings, which are both audible and visual on flight displays, are based on the aircraft’s actual weight by recalculating the aircraft’s energy state second to second. This is a unique system and the first-ever application certified for business aviation. Airbus has implemented similar technology on its commercial aircraft as well as Gulfstream is reported to be installing it on their revolutionary G700.

CHARTER A 2020 PHENOM 300E
The 2020 Phenom 300E was the second installment of upgrades and redesigns that has essentially upgraded every aspect of the Phenom 300 series with technology, innovation, and first class comfort appropriate for aviation in 2020. The features in the cabin have truly integrated the aircraft and passenger technology to maximize connectivity and productivity while enjoying a more tranquil cabin with a faster cruise speed. While most of the improvements made are not discernible to the average eye, those small improvements add up to a massive difference, a difference you can feel.
