BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CHALLENGER 650

BOMBARDIER | CL-650 | CHALLENGER 650 (2015-PRESENT)
Bombardier’s Challenger 600 series first took flight on November 8th, 1978 and received its type certification on August 10th, 1980. The Bombardier Challenger 650 is built on the Bombardier Challenger 605 airframe but has been completely upgraded. The Challenger 600 family’s fundamental concepts have stayed consistent throughout its history — low-wing design for a smooth ride, two rear-mounted turbofans for maximum thrust output, supercritical wing, stand-up cabin, widest cabin in class, and two living sections. The Challenger 650 took flight in 2015 for the first time and shortly after it would be certified and introduced. In August of 2016, Bombardier would deliver the first 650 to a German customer. Boasting upgraded avionics, redesigned interior and galley, and increased thrust.

CABIN COMFORTS – CHALLENGER 650
Boasting the widest-in-class cabin and Ka-band high-speed internet access, the Challenger 650 is the ideal aircraft for anyone looking for a place to rest or work. You’ll notice hand-stitched features throughout the interior as well as the absence of visible speakers in the cabin walls resulting in more elegant lines throughout the cabin. All chairs recline fully and swivel 360 degrees for ultimate comfort. If you’re traveling overnight (or simply want a snooze), the front seats and divan may be turned into beds. Each component of the aircraft was hand-built by Bombardier in their Montreal plant, resulting in an aircraft that is truly a flying piece of art.The cabin’s atmosphere may be managed using a smartphone app that connects via Bluetooth and controls the cabin entertainment system and cabin climate. Passengers may expect to find four facing leather club seats in the jet’s forward area, with an additional four facing seats near the aircraft’s aft. Additionally to these four chairs, guests will discover a four-seat divan (with specially made cushions). Given the Challenger 650’s maximum cabin altitude of 7,000 feet, you can be certain that you will arrive at your destination feeling refreshed. The Bombardier Challenger 650 has a capacity of twelve passengers, two pilots, and one flight attendant who will cater to your needs utilizing the bigger equipment in the galley, allowing for speedier meal preparation. Also an innovative feature is an  electrically controlled door conceals the fully equipped galley.

POWER AND PERFORMANCE – CHALLENGER 650
The Challenger 650 is powered by two General Electric CF34-3B engines, each of which generates 9,220 pounds of thrust (18,440 pounds total), while consuming just 227 gallons of fuel per hour in cruise. The 650 is capable of a maximum cruising speed of 490 knots, a range of 4,000 nautical miles, and a take-off distance of just 5,640 feet thanks to these incredibly powerful engines. The Challenger 650’s superb engines deliver steep approach certification, allowing it to land at London City Airport as well as utilize airports with difficult approaches such as Aspen and Lugano.

FLIGHT DECK – CHALLENGER 650
The flight deck of the Bombardier Challenger 650 perfectly integrates the comfort of the cabin and the mechanics of the cockpit, offering pilots maximum comfort and control. The cockpit is equipped with a synthetic vision system (SVS) and a sophisticated avionics circuit that supports the FAA Next Gen and new SESAR criteria.  The new flight management system (FMS) is accompanied by enhanced memory capacity and upload speeds. It enables basic navigation performance from 0.3nm onwards, as well as localizer performance with vertical guides.  Also equipped with Multi-scan weather radar, which eliminates misinterpretations and aids pilots by reporting clear weather circumstances, reducing workload and ensuring a more comfortable ride. By reducing pilot workload, it increases focus, as well as decreases pilot fatigue for those longer journeys. The head-up display (HUD) and enhanced vision system (EVS) provide maximum versatility and situational awareness, allowing pilots to reach lower decision heights on final approaches and increasing airport access in inclement weather. The Challenger 650 features a Smart Runway and Smart Landing system that assists pilots during crucial flight phases such as landings, takeoffs, and approach and landing operations
