CESSNA | MODEL 525 | CITATION CJ1+ (2005-2011)
BRIEF HISTORY – CITATION CJ1+
In 2005, the Citation CJ1+ replaced the Citation CJ1. The Cessna CJ1+ is a Very Light Jet (VLJ). It was created as an enhanced version of the CJ1, with the capacity to fly faster, further, and more economical than ever before. Boasting a 100-pound increase in gross weight, allowing it to carry more cargo over longer distances. It is based on the same airframe as the previous model the CJ1 but features an improved avionics kit. Production ceased in 2011 after 102 deliveries were made.
CABIN COMFORTS – CITATION CJ1+
For a Very Light Jet (VLJ) the cabin is quite spacious at 11 feet long, 4 feet 9 inches wide, and 4 feet 9 inches tall, with its cabin volume totaling 201 cubic feet, has been significantly upgraded, first by utilizing the cabin space better and increasing its volume. Cessna now includes a left-hand belted flushing toilet, deluxe refreshment center, indirect lighting, and overwater life vests as standard equipment on the CJ1+. The Citation CJ1+ also benefits from Cessna’s larger Citation’s interior design upgrades. For example, the CJ1+ will include Cessna’s innovative one-piece, automotive-style overhead cockpit liner. The Citation Sovereign was the first aircraft to feature this overhead lining. It has four club-style seats and one side-facing seat. Its cabin size can accommodate up to four to five passengers. The full-length lowered aisle creates a sense of spaciousness in the cabin. The double-sealed door has a vault-style fastening system, which significantly lowers cabin noise. Among the amenities are an aft lavatory, fold-down work tables, leather interior, an air-conditioned and pressurized cabin for passenger comfort, and an unusually generous luggage capacity. Flights are much quieter as a result of improved soundproofing techniques.
FLIGHT DECK – CITATION CJ1+
Another advancement in the CJ1+ that contributes to its lowered operational costs: the CJ1+’s simple yet reliable flight systems. The flight deck has been greatly enhanced over the CJ1 to incorporate cutting-edge situational awareness technology and FADEC technology (Full Authority Digital Engine Controls). It is equipped with the Pro Line 21 avionics kit, which includes flat-panel displays for the PFD (Primary Flight Display) and MFD (Multi Function Display). The CJ1 was the world’s first private jet to feature these displays.
POWER AND PERFORMANCE – CITATION CJ1+
The CJ1+ was created with the goal of being as simple to fly as possible as it is rated for single pilot operation. Numerous systems have now been automated from deicing to cabin pressure. Engine bleed air is repurposed to de-ice the wing edge and engine, as well as to remove rain from the windshield, pressurize the cabin, and even heat it! Nothing goes to waste! The horizontal tail is protected by a pneumatic de-ice boot controlled by an autonomous cycling mechanism.Despite the CJ1+’s efficiency, it is capable of carrying a very large payload. Its three luggage compartments can hold a combined weight of 832 pounds. The CJ1+ was specifically built to operate comfortably from a 4,000-foot runway in the most demanding conditions — hot-and-high, hot temperature and high altitude, as well as maximum load capacity. The developers designed a new tail component to lower the airplane’s total weight and size without compromising cabin space. The CJ1+ is a very fuel-efficient aircraft thanks to its two Williams/Rolls-Royce FJ44-1A turbofan engines that provide 1,965 lbs of thrust each during takeoff. The CJ1+ has a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of 10,700 pounds and a maximum fuel weight increase of 300 pounds to 3,220 pounds. At 41,000 feet, the CJ1+ may exceed the CJ1’s top speed by more than 20 knots. One of the most significant performance enhancements is the climb rate: while the CJ1 took 59 minutes to reach 41,000 feet, the CJ1+ takes only 32 minutes.
