BRIEF HISTORY OF CESSNA CITATION CJ3+

CESSNA | C525B | CITATION CJ3+ (2014-PRESENT)
Cessna’s Citation CJ3+ is the 8th generation of the Citation series with its first iteration, CJ3 being introduced in 2002, and delivered in December 2004. From the onset, their goal was designing an aircraft more cost effective than other light jets in its class, including its main predecessor the Citation CJ3 and the others in the Citation series, which had already made a name for itself in its own right thanks to their great performance and low operating costs. Cessna’s venture was a resounding success, with the CJ3+ becoming one of the industry’s most popular light business jets today. The Cessna Citation CJ3+ was announced in early 2014 and received FAA certification shortly after in September 2014. Cessna made its first delivery in 2014 and provides unmatched reliability without compromising efficiency or comfort. It’s the ideal balance of range, speed, and economy. It is known for its hot-and-high performance (hot temperatures and high altitude) while allowing for longer maintenance intervals. It features an updated avionics suite, Garmin G3000, and an updated interior design. In February 2021, Textron Aviation announced they had delivered the 600th Citation CJ3 or CJ3+ series aircraft. What an accomplishment!

CABIN COMFORTS – CITATION CJ3+
Despite the emphasis on horsepower and outward appearance, the CJ3’s interior surpassed prior CJ models in every way, boasting dimensions of 15 feet 8 inches (4.78 m) long, 4 feet 9 inches (1.45 m) tall, 4 feet 10 inches (1.47 m) wide, with a total cabin volume of 283 cubic feet (8.01 cu m). The luxurious chairs have been reconfigured on tracks for comfort and maneuverability. Normally equipped with six captain’s seats in a center club layout, these seats can be reconfigured to accommodate seven or eight persons. The CJ3+ features a large baggage capacity totaling 75 cubic feet (2.12 cu m), with an internal capacity of 10 cubic feet (0.28 cu m) and an external capacity of 65 cubic feet (1.84 cu m).The cabin features a refreshment center with an adjustable-shelf storage cabinet. The cabin is illuminated by abundant natural light through its impressive fourteen windows and the LEDs outfitted in the headliner have been designed and strategically placed to provide an illusion of additional space, instantly making the cabin feel more spacious and comfortable. Folding tables and numerous 110-volt AC power outlets are strategically placed throughout the cabin to allow for increased productivity and connectivity in-flight.

POWER AND PERFORMANCE – CITATION CJ3+
Two Williams FJ44-3A turbofan engines power the CJ3+ aircraft, delivering roughly 15% more take-off thrust than the CJ2, producing 2,820 lbs of thrust each. The engines are pod mounted above the rear section of the fuselage and was the first light jet in history to be equipped with FADEC (full authority digital engine control). The CJ3+ is capable of a maximum cruising speed of 416 knots (480 mph / 771 km/h) and a maximum cruising altitude of 45,000 feet (13,716 m) which the CJ3+ can climb to in just 25 minutes at maximum gross take-off weight! Flying at this altitude will eliminate most of the air traffic and turbulence experienced while cruising. The aircraft has an impressive maximum baggage weight of half a ton! The CJ3+ has a maximum range of 2,040 nautical miles (2,347 miles / 3,778 kilometers) with two pilots, full fuel, and four passengers with luggage.. The Cessna Citation CJ3+ can also take off in under 3,180 feet (969 m) and land in 2,720 feet (844 m). The Cessna CJ3+ has a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 13,870 pounds (6,291kg). The Citation CJ3 consumes 149 gallons of gasoline per hour (GPH).

FLIGHT DECK – CITATION CJ3+
The CJ3+ is equipped with the Garmin G3000 avionics suite. The CJ3+ jet has a completely digital, dual-channel autopilot (AP) system with several features for increased redundancy and dependability. The AP is designed to inspire confidence while assuring fluidity and comfort by integrating data from the avionics system. The system is driven by the Garmin® GFCTM 700 control system, which includes a flight director, autopilot, yaw damper, and other high-performance capabilities. The GFC 700 provides exceptional automation and accuracy in flight. With accurate lateral and vertical navigation guidance for all phases of flight, the AP maximizes aircraft performance. It can fly VNAV descent profiles, automated Takeoff/Go-Around procedures, and more while maintaining altitude, airspeed, vertical speed, and direction. LinxUs is compatible with the Garmin GDLTM59 (Wi-Fi Datalink) and Garmin GSRTM56 on the Citation CJ3+ aircraft (Iridium Satellite Receiver). LinxUs and LinxUs Air work in conjunction with the Central Diagnostics Maintenance System (CDMS) to serve as a fault-isolation system that continuously monitors the aircraft. Actionable responses are delivered in real time in the case of an onboard issue, resulting in a speedier turnaround time to get the aircraft back in the air.The AP system on the CJ3+ jet is easy and intuitive to operate whilst being advanced and cutting-edge, making flying the CJ3+ jet easier, safer, more consistent, and pleasurable. All of these systems work in conjunction reducing the pilot workload and pilot fatigue which increases their focus on those longer days. The ergonomic cockpit provides additional crew room  – resulting in increased crew comfort and efficiency.  All information is intuitively arranged and accessible by a single swipe.
