CESSNA | MODEL 525 | CITATIONJET (CJ) 1993-2000
BRIEF HISTORY – CESSNA MODEL 525 – CITATIONJET
In 1989, Cessna announced an all new aircraft, the Model 525 – CitationJet or CJ. It uses the same forward fuselage as on the Citation II with a new carry-through section, wing, and all new T-tail. Cessna’s goal in the late 80’s was to design an aircraft with three main priorities: economy, performance, and simplicity. These goals proved difficult to achieve, particularly in terms of developing an aerodynamic structure that is inexpensive to produce and handles well. Earlier Citations featured a straight wing, which slows the aircraft’s speed but also significantly saves manufacture and design costs. Cessna was determined to solve this problem and over four years and a collaboration with NASA they had finally found a solution! The CJ was updated to use a natural laminar flow wing, significantly reducing drag while maintaining handling performance. The CJ made its maiden flight on April 29, 1991. It was delivered to its first customer on March 30, 1993. The CitationJet was the ideal Very Light Jet (VLJ) in the 90’s as it was a very economical and intuitive aircraft. Building on its success, Cessna would further develop the Model 525 to the CJ1/CJ1+/M2/M2 Gen2. Other variants would be manufactured by Cessna utilizing the CitationJet’s airframe and design as the foundation.
CABIN COMFORTS – CITATIONJET
For a Very Light Jet (VLJ) the CJ’s cabin is quite spacious at 11 feet long, 4 feet 9 inches wide, and 4 feet 9 inches tall, with a cabin volume totaling 186 cubic feet. For your comfort in the cabin you will find a deluxe refreshment center, indirect lighting, fold-down work tables, leather interior, an air-conditioned and pressurized cabin for passenger comfort. It has four club-style seats and one side-facing seat. Its cabin size can accommodate up to four to five passengers. The full-length lowered aisle creates a sense of spaciousness in the cabin. The CJ’s amenities also include an aft lavatory (closes with a curtain) and an unusually generous luggage capacity with three separate compartments which means you’ll always have room for your clubs or that extra bag.
POWER AND PERFORMANCE – CITATIONJET
In conjunction with lowering the drag on the wings, the CessnaJet’s increase in speed is augmented by two Williams/Rolls-Royce FJ44-1A engines. Williams/Rolls Royce previously manufactured engines for cruise missiles which produced 1,900 pounds of thrust each, while still managing to be aerodynamic and light enough for the CJ. The FJ44 engines were simplified to have around a third of the moving components found in most engines at the time, while also using approximately 30% less fuel than comparable jet engines.
FLIGHT DECK – CITATIONJET
The Citation CJ is equipped with the sophisticated Pro Line 21 avionics suite, which includes three ten-inch by eight-inch flat panel LCD panels that may be used as Primary Flight Displays or Multi-Function Displays.
CHARTER THE CITATIONJET
The CJ is a fantastic aircraft for 2-4 passengers traveling on shorter journeys. For its time it was an incredibly innovative and powerful aircraft. That is why Cessna has continued to release upgrades and variants to this day based off of this model, specifically referring to the Citation M2. This aircraft has all the basic amenities to ensure your 1-2 hour flights are comfortable and enjoyable. CharterJets Inc. features the newest and highest safety rated Citation CJ’s available.
