BRIEF HISTORY – HAWKER 800XP
HAWKER BEECHCRAFT | HS 125-800 | HAWKER 800XP (1995-2009)
The Hawker 800XP business jet is the latest evolution of the de Havilland / Hawker Siddeley and British Aerospace 125 aircraft which was originally built in the United Kingdom in 1962 and progressed into the Series 400, 800, and 1000 produced until the early 1990s. The BAe 125-800 would go into production in 1983 and in 1993 when Raytheon acquired the business jets divisions of British Aerospace which included the Series 800 program, they would go on to change its name to what we know it as now, the Hawker 800.When production stopped in 1995 on the Hawker 800, they had completed and delivered over 275 aircraft. The Hawker 800XP was introduced into service that same year, 1995, and concluded in 2006. In that time, 250 planes were manufactured. The Hawker 850XP would be released as its replacement with upgraded avionics and cabin upgrades, alongside they would release the Hawker 800XPi which is identical to the 800XP but is outfitted with winglets. And in 2008 they would go on to deliver the Hawker 750 and 900XP. Hawker Beechcraft received STC clearance in 2011 for the Hawker 800XPR, an upgrade package for the 800XP that includes Honeywell’s TFE731-50R engines (found on the 900XP) and Hawker winglets, extending the aircraft’s range by around 100 nautical miles. The 800XPR upgrade package also included optional avionics and interior changes, as well as a bespoke paint scheme.
CABIN COMFORTS – HAWKER 800XP
Step inside the Hawker 800XP’s cabin and relax in the roomy cabin with seats for eight. A four-person club section, a three-person divan, and a single seat are all common layouts. In its class, the Hawker 800XP has one of the largest cabins and you can feel it. With a cabin height of almost 5 feet 9 inches, a width of 6 feet, and a length over 21 feet, there’s plenty of room to stretch out and relax after a long day at work, or to pack the family in for a weekend trip to Cabo San Lucas. Want to take the fellas to Pebble Beach for a round of golf? The Hawker 800XP has enough room for 3-5 golf bags and 6 or so medium baggage (be sure to use soft sided). The Hawker 800XP is a great choice for those taller passengers with longer legs. With 6 people and their bags nestled away in the back, Dallas to Monterey is a breeze for a quick golf trip.A galley is positioned near the flight deck equipped with a microwave, cold / hot storage, refreshment center and mini-bar. Also a fully enclosed aft lavatory with sink, cabin access to the baggage compartment, and a choice of media and entertainment options like DVD players, satellite phones, and optional Wi-Fi are among the other cabin facilities that will be equipped.
POWER AND PERFORMANCE – HAWKER 800XP
Two advanced AlliedSignal TFE731-5BR engines are installed in the Hawker 800XP. At take-off, each engine produces 4,660 pounds of thrust. TFE-731s with a maximum thrust of 4,300 pounds are used on the older 800s, the additional trust output on the XP results in cruise speeds of five to fourteen knots faster than the 800 (tops out at 443 KTAS at FL370 under ISA circumstances), as well as climb times of 15 to 23 percent faster. On a typical day, the Hawker 800XP required 5,032 feet (1,534 m) of runway to take off at sea level. This take-off requirement is increased to 7,952 feet (2,424 m) of runway at an altitude of 5,000 feet (1,524 m). The Hawker 800XP only requires a 2,245 foot (684 m) runway to land with four passengers. The Hawker 800XP has a range of 2,620 nautical miles (3,015 mi / 4,852 km) and can ascend to a height of 37,000 feet (11,278 m) in under twenty minutes! The Hawker 800XP can travel at a speed of 402 knots (463 mph/ 745 km/h) at an altitude of 39,000 feet (11,887 m) in a long-range cruise mode. In a high-speed cruise configuration, the Hawker 800XP can maintain an airspeed of 456 knots (525 mph / 845 km/h) at an altitude of 37,000 feet (11,278 m) for a faster trip. The maximum Mach operating (MMO) speed limitation for the 800 and 800XP is 0.80 Mach (533 knots/ 613 mph/ 987 km/h). That’s plenty of speed for most missions, which often cover significantly less distance than the XP’s maximum NBAA IFR range of 2,432 nautical miles (2,799 mi/ 4,505 km) with full fuel.
FLIGHT DECK – HAWKER 800XP
The Hawker 800XP was outfitted with the most advanced avionics suite of its time, the Honeywell SPZ-8000 which included a GPS, high-frequency communication capability, Flight Management System (FMS), Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS), dual Collins communication and navigation radios, Traffic Collision Avoidance System II (TCAS II), dual Honeywell laser inertial reference systems (IRSs), and dual autopilot capabilities are among the avionics systems included in this suite. An air-to-ground telephone, a triple laser inertial navigation system (INS), and dual FMS are among the additional instrumentation choices.
