There are a few differences between the CJ2 and the CJ3 that account for most of its performance increases as well as the additional comfort and flexibility. UPGRADED FLIGHT SYSTEMS
The Pro Line 21 avionics suite and its FADEC (Full-authority digital engine controls) are key contributors to the increased fuel efficiency and lowered operational cost on the CJ3/CJ3+. It provides a level of control and consistency to pilots unlike ever before.
WEIGHT REDUCTION
By updating the avionics suite and adding more digital controls, they were able to significantly reduce the overall weight in the flight deck while increasing the overall thrust output from the updated engines.
INCREASED PAYLOAD
With a reduction of weight in the flight deck coupled with more powerful and efficient engines, the CJ3/CJ3+ was able to increase its overall payload by 415 lbs (188 kg)! Cessna also increased the wingspan by three feet which assists with the increased overall payload weights and control.
CRUISE EFFICIENCY
By reducing the cruise speed by 5 knots (5.75 mph / 9.25 kmh), Cessna was able to increase the CL3’s range by almost 300 nautical miles (345 miles / 555 km)! Another feature contributing to the CJ3’s fuel efficiency is the employment of natural laminar flow wings which added 3 feet to the wings. These wings dramatically improve lift-to-drag performance and increase efficiency across the entire aircraft, especially in regards to runway performance.
CABIN SIZE
While the CJ2/CJ2+ and the CJ3/CJ3+ look fairly similar at first glance, the CJ3/CJ3+’s cabin has been stretched 2 feet (0.61m) in length, 2 inches (5.08cm) in width, and an additional 1 inch (2.54cm) to its cabin height. Making the overall cabin feel much more spacious while utilizing the additional length in the flight deck and galley.
