BRIEF HISTORY OF CESSNA
Cessna Aircraft Company manufactured everything from small, single engine, piston-powered aircraft all the way up to business jets. They have had a long and successful history as the nation’s leading aircraft manufacturer. In 1911, Clyde Cessna was a farmer in Rago, Kansas with an innovative vision for an aircraft built out of wood-and-fabric. In June of 1911, Mr. Cessna had assembled his first aircraft and went on to pilot it on its first successful flight thus laying the foundation for Cessna Aircraft Company. Clyde performed many of his test flights on the salt flats. As the years went on, tests continued and more and more bankers began to refuse lending him money. Once funding dried up in Enid, OK, Clyde moved to Wichita, KS to seek additional funding for his venture. Clyde Cessna and Victor Roos formed a brief partnership in 1927 in Wichita, KS named the Cessna-Roos Aircraft Company. Roos departed from the partnership less than a month after its inception, selling his stake to Cessna.  Roos’s name was omitted from the company’s name shortly thereafter. For the majority of the mid-to-late twentieth century, Cessna was one of the world’s largest (by volume) and most diverse manufacturers of aircraft. The first Citation aircraft entered service in 1972, and over 35 million flight hours have been logged since then. It was formed in 1927 and acquired in 1985 by General Dynamics. Seven years later in 1992, Textron, Inc., Cessna shut down operations as a subsidiary firm in March 2014, when Textron acquired the Beechcraft, and Hawker Aircraft companies, and became one of the three separate brands produced by Textron Aviation. Out of the wide variety of aircraft Cessna produced and manufactured, the most successful of them all was the Cessna 172. The first production model was delivered in 1956 and has sold over 46,000 Cessna 172’s since!CharterJets Inc. is the leading provider of inimitable private charter services globally, offers an incredibly diverse range of aircraft, featuring the newest and highest safety rated Citation series aircraft with the most experienced crews ready to elevate your next charter experience.
